ACS Researches The Future Of Education
Advanced Cabinet Systems (ACS) of Marion, Indiana, has become dedicated to helping develop the future educational environment. ACS is a manufacturer of Division 12 Plastic Laminate Casework and retail store fixtures. ACS has been exploring several avenues to help shape the future workforce from doing extensive research and collaborating with education focused architects, local universities, and high schools.
During the summer of 2012, ACS hired Anna Luke, an Interior Design intern from Indiana Wesleyan University, located in Marion, Indiana. While employed at ACS, Luke researched everything from student learning styles, classroom design, and technology, to lighting, temperature, and color theory in the educational environment. With her research in hand, Luke developed a presentation for ACS that she delivers to architects around the area. “During my research, I discovered that current classroom designs are geared towards the teachers instead of the students. We as a society need to change this format to help stimulate the learning process,” said Luke. She went on, “If you think the price of investing in education is too high, consider the cost of an ignorant society.”
ACS has been developing a new program for high school students in the area led by Marc Dunker, Creative Director at Advanced Cabinet Systems. “The program will educate students about woodworking and what we do at ACS. Our goal is to show students the technology involved in modern woodworking in the casework and retail store fixture industry,” said Dunker. “We feel privileged to help the local schools educate students, especially those that no longer have a traditional woodshop class.”
